Review: Logitech MX518 Mouse

November 26th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Games, Tech

I first purchased my Logitech MX518 in 2005 after seeing a leaflet in my Battlefield 2 game box, after 3 years the mouse wheel finally packed in and it was time for a replacement, that replacement being another Logitech MX518. Being a lot more expensive back then (£32.95) it was one of the top gaming mouses. Now priced at 17.99 it’s a steal and one of the best selling mouses out there.

Logitech MX518

It’s got a great design, looks better than in the pictures, the grooves and shape make comfortable for the right hander, I don’t thing Lefty’s will like much about this one as there are buttons located on the left side of the mouse which will be quite easy to hit. You may want to look into something like a Razer gaming mouse.

There are 2 buttons at the side, these out of the box act as forward and back buttons for your internet browser. The 3 at the top, 2 located near the mouse wheel control the speed of your mouse on the fly. The introduction of Vista has now made the 3rd and final button do the new fancy 3D ALT + Tab, Also known as FLIP 3D. All these buttons can be changed using the provided software.

Any changes over the 3 years? Well yes! Most retail sites claim the mouse can do 1600 DPI but actually, the DPI for mouse has been increased to 1800, apart from that everything is the same.

This mouse does work for Mac, plug in the mouse and it works. The sensitivity can be adjusted using the buttons on top of the mouse, but as for the software control panel, it’s nonexistent.

On the gaming front the mouse delivers, it slides across your mouse mat very smooth and reacts the way you want it to with not much distance to travel for the clicker. Will you notice a difference in gaming? Id say definitely if your coming from a standard mouse.

Logitech MX518 Review

Overall it’s a quality mouse which is why I’ve had 2 of them over the years, It’s quite shocking that I’ve wrote so much about a mouse, but I hope this helps anyone looking for it. For value for money it definately can’t be beat.
